FISH CAMP, (July 17, 2007) - Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite, the AAA Four-Diamond™ resort located just two miles south of Yosemite National Park, has expanded the interpretive programs available to its guests, introducing three new ones this season. Tenaya is located in the Sierra National Forest, offering a variety of ways to experience nature even before entering the Park. The Tenaya programs are free or at nominal cost. Operating throughout the summer, the activities include:
National Park Service Ranger Talks In a new program launched this summer, each Monday and Wednesday evening at 8 pm, an NPS Park Ranger will meet guests in lobby and lead them down to the campfire in Summerdale, Tenaya’s own interpretation of a Gold Rush mining camp. The Ranger will tell tales of Yosemite, discuss the flora and fauna of the Park and give guests a lesson on bear awareness around the roaring campfire. This is a free event, open to all Tenaya Lodge guests. (BYOS: Guests can use the campfire to make S’mores; all-you-need kits are available in the Tenaya gift shop for only $ xx each.)
Yosemite Fund Outreach Program On Saturday nights at 8 p.m., guests can enjoy movies and slideshows presented by Audrey Hammond, a representative of the Yosemite Fund, the non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the Park. Topics will include the Giant Sequoias and Yosemite Trails. This is new program is free to all guests.
Heidi Vetter Photo Walks – Also new this year is a Photo Walk, led by Heidi Vetter, a local photographer well-known for her images of Yosemite. The one-hour walk departs Sunday mornings at 9 am. The emphasis is on using digital cameras to capture the exquisite scenery. Participants bring their own cameras. The cost is $10 per person, and accommodates a minimum of four persons and a maximum of ten.
Flashlight Hikes A popular activity for many years, this easy hike operates any night there are at least four participants. The group leaves at 8 pm from the Guest Services Desk in the grand lobby of the lodge. This walk is perfect for kids ages six and up. The cost is $10 per person and includes a souvenir Tenaya flashlight. The hike is conducted by a Guest Services staff member.
